How to wear on oversized sweater| Winter is here! And you know what that means, time for hot chocolate, hot baths, warm clothing, layering and most importantly oversized sweaters. I love oversized sweaters. There is nothing comfier, okay maybe a warm fuzzy fresh bath robes, but you can’t walk around (without looking crazy) in a bath robe around town so oversized sweaters will have to do.
Keep it Simple
The number one and only rule on how to wear an oversized sweater is to keep things extremely simple. It is very easy for the entire look to “go south” and start looking extremely frumpy. Everything you pair your oversized sweater with should be as minimal and simple as possible. Don’t be afraid to experiment with colour a little but remember that when trying to pull off the oversized sweater look, the sweater should be the centerpiece and center of attention, try not to have too many other “bulky” things calling for attention, go for simple:
Try to avoid wearing any other oversized accessory or item of clothing as that will end up making you look dowdy and dull. Keep you skirt, jeans, leggings or anything else you choose to pair your sweater with as tight as possible to keep the look polished and chic.

Avoid platform shoes by all means, please, I beg you! You could try it out and send me a picture of how it looks but I highly suggest you do not. Platform shoes will make the entire outfit look cumbersome and way too busy. Try and opt for simple strappy heels or a simple pair of pointy boots if the weather is a bit too cold.
When it comes to the bag (to top everything all off) try and go with as small a bag as possible. In my opinion big bags can act as a centerpiece and “main topic” for an outfit and trying to have your oversized sweater fight for attention with your oversized bag is not going to be a good look. Go for a small sling bag for a day out or a simple clutch bag for a night out with the girls.

It wouldn’t be a proper How to Wear An Oversized Sweater post if I didn’t show how I rocked mine would it? I decided to use my father’s sweater for my look (lol, hi dad) mainly because I don’t really own any sweaters and all the hoodies and jerseys I have are all small (or rather, they fit my body perfectly and don’t look oversized at all lol).
I love raiding my family members’ wardrobes and looking for items to incorporate into my outfits every now and again. Everytime they see me in their rooms rustling through their clothes they always know exactly why I am there. Shout out to my family for continuing to enable me!
I paired my (dad’s) oversized sweater with one of my most favorite pair of Cotton On leggings ever. I have spoken about my love for Cotton On leggings before and I still absolutely adore them. If you are still on the hunt for comfortable and extremely warm pairs of leggings for this coming winter I suggest you head straight to Cotton On and get your fix. For R299 (on average) a pair they may seem a little pricey for just a simple pair of leggings but they are definitely an investment item. They are really thick and are guaranteed to take you through at least three winters (tried and tested).
I opted for the simplest pair of strappy heels that I could pick off my shoe rack to complete this look but still keep things exciting. It wasn’t too cold the day I put this on so strappy heels were just right. But if you want to pull this off on a cold day, like I said a pair of (non-platform) pointy heels will do the trick.
When it came to accessorizing I wanted to keep it simple and straight forward. My go-to see-through glasses I got from Mr Price earlier this year seemed like the right fit and a pair of gold hoop earrings to top it all off. I love my see through glasses because I know that I will be able to wear them all throughout winter, even when the sun is down, perfect!
